Cotton is the most used natural fiber in the textile industry. Although it is biocompatible and of natural-origin, its production has been associated to negative environmental impacts. Runoff of pesticides, fertilizers, and minerals from cotton fields contaminates rivers, lakes, wetlands, and underground aquifers. These pollutants affect biodiversity directly by immediate toxicity or indirectly through long-term accumulation.

Tech4MED is using NaturALL-Hemp-BS to produce a resilient textile with enhanced anti-fungal properties. Hemp is the strongest and most durable organic plant fiber on the planet, being five times stronger than cotton. As a crop, hemp is exceptionally environmentally positive. It requires around 50 percent less water than conventional cotton and can grow in a range of soils at high yield. The plant is also extremely durable and requires low to zero pesticides.
